Oilpatch since 1980, Wellsite Supervision 5 years  (Updated June 08, 2010)

Personal Profile

Richard has been in the oilpatch since 1980 in various capacities including oilfield instrumentation field service and management (9 years), pipe handling as well as casing torque monitoring on deep sour gas wells (3 years), hauling (6 years).  Through mutual interests, Richard met and became a close friend of Dennis Labrecque, owner of Wellsite Geologists Inc.   In 2005, Wellsite Geologists had an opening for an assistant on deep wells drilling with invert mud.  Richard was very keen to learn and spent months with one of the top wellsite geologists in the industry, Joe Olstad who has 25 years of wellsite supervision.  Joe was quick to recognize Richard’s natural aptitude for wellsite supervision, his ability to learn quickly, and his excellent communication skills which are so important in this industry.  He set out to teach Richard all that he knew.

Since 2005, Richard has worked on upwards of 73 wells.  He has done the geological wellsite supervision on vertical, directional, and horizontal wells, predominantly in north west, west central, and central Alberta with minor exposure to south eastern Saskatchewan and has been well trained in clastics, carbonates, & evaporites.  Everywhere Richard works, people ask to have him back.  His most recent horizontal experience include Rock Creek horizontals in the Edson area, Falher sand horizontals in the Grande Cache area, and Cardium horizontals in the Pembina area.
